Granny's Pepper Chicken Fry

Ingredients

4-5 cloves

4-5 small onions, whole, peeled and cut in cross at the top

1/2 kg Chicken, curry cut

1 medium sized onion, diced

5 garlic cloves, mashed roughly

2 tsps Garam Masala

2 tsps Coriander Powder

2 tsps Cumin Powder

3 Tsps Chili Powder

1 Tsp Turmeric Powder

Salt to Taste

3-4 tsps Pepper Powder

4 Chilies green, slit lengthwise

1-2 tsps Kachampuli, depends on the pungent scale you like. (you may add lemon juice or vinegar, tamarind for the sourness, although it is not an alternative)

Coriander leaves, chopped for flavour and garnish

2-3 Tbsps Oil

2-3 cups Water, or more as per method


Method

Marinate chicken with turmeric, salt, 2 tsps chili and leave to marinate (atleast an hour minimum).

Heat oil and brown the cloves, chopped onion and garlic.

Add all the masalas and fry with the onion mixture. Hold off on the pepper for now.

Add Chicken and fry well, let it release water on medium to high flame.

Add crossed onions, water and bring to a boil. Add pepper.

Cover and allow to cook on low flame.

In 10 mins, add Kachampuli, green chilies and stir in. Cover again and leave to cook.

Add the coriander and boil again for a few minutes.
